EQUIPMENT OPERATOR/DRIVER II
Under general supervision, to skillfully operate motorized refuse collection equipment in providing effective, efficient collection of solid waste; to drive an assigned service route maintaining quality service standards; to operate heavy equipment and perform a variety of maintenance functions at County Solid sites and transfer stations; and to do related work as required.
Tools and equipment used in a Solid Waste Collection Program. Practices, tools, equipment and materials used in solid waste collection and services. Laws, rules, and regulations applicable to operation of motorized solid waste collection equipment on public roads. Basic principles and methods of equipment inspection and prevention maintenance. Proper procedures for handling hazardous materials. Maintain proper quality and quantity of services. Skillfully use and operate a variety of equipment utilized in refuse collection and services. Equipment operation and maintenance functions at Solid Waste sites and transfer stations. Work safety practices.
Safely operate motorized solid waste collection equipment in accordance with applicable Vehicle Code requirements. Maintain proper quality and quantity of services. Perform equipment operation and maintenance functions at Solid Waste sites and transfer stations. Skillfully use and operate a variety of equipment utilized in refuse collection and services. Perform heavy physical labor. Follow oral and written directions. Maintain and make basic repairs to equipment. Maintain accurate daily records and reports. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
Training and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Two (2) years of solid waste work collection service and site operation and maintenance experience comparable to that of a Solid Waste Equipment Operator/Driver I with Trinity County.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, current, and appropriate class of California Driver’s License required to perform the majority of regular job assignments.
Some job assignments may require a special Class of California Driver’s license and endorsements. Employees meeting special licensing requirements may receive a stipend, as determined through the County collective bargaining process.
Typical Physical Requirements:
Frequently stand and walk. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Walk on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces. Normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Ability to lift material weighing up to 90 lbs. Exert unusual physical effort in the loading and unloading of containers. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Verbal communication. Ability to wear safety and protective clothing such as hard hats, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs, respirators, gloves, boots and chemical resistant clothing. Use of variety of hand and power equipment. Operate motorized solid waste collection equipment. Operate a two-way radio.
