The Summer Youth Program is Back!
After a successful 2009 summer program, the Smart Business Resource Center will once again coordinate a summer program for the 2010 year. Funds for the program will be drawn from funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The ARRA, signed by President Obama on February 17, 2009, is intended to preserve and create jobs, promote the nation's economic recovery, and assist those most impacted by the recession.
The Act provides funding for additional youth employment and training services from May thru September. The Smart Center has been enlisted to employ youth, ages 18-24 years of age, through the summer in an effort to stimulate the economy. Youth will be placed at various work sites for up to 8 weeks to learn skills for future employment opportunities. We accept this challenge and have had a tremendous response from our community employers in Shasta and Trinity County to help us reach our goal.
The program will also be releasing weekly newsletters and a video documentary set to be completed in September to document this year's summer program. Four summer youth have been hired on by the Smart Business Resource Center to complete this project. See "Newsletters" and "Video Documentary" for more information.
